faithfulflame | Thirteenth Prayer: A Flash of the Future [Video/Action]

[It's been nearly two years in Luceti, and Rei's come to realize that things are very different for her than they were initially. Then, she'd been so focused on getting home, getting back to the fight, and finishing what she'd started. But everything that'd happened since that time had given her other things to focus on, other people to care about besides just the Senshi, and a semblance of happiness she'd not had at home. People to trust, a shrine to call her own, and a way to grow stronger without having to rely in the power of Mars and that link to the past. It was nice, having that life, even the experiments and friends randomly disappearing were better than being dead.

Haruhi's departure had been a little shocking, but then...every time someone left it meant they were just going back to the life they'd been stolen from. Even as much as she'd grown attached to the place, going home still felt right, like it was the way things should go. After all, destiny could only be put off for so long. Which she knew all to well applied to her, that she shouldn't wish too hard to delay the inevitable, but all the same she couldn't quite bring herself to hope for that. Even if you knew you'd come back, and everything would be alright in the end, there was something oddly morbid about wishing for death.

Rather than dwell on it, though, Rei does what she does best: she moves on with her life with a sigh. Today is Setsubun after all, so inevitably, she finds herself in the shrine. After a while she decides to perform a flame reading of her own future, something she's been putting off for a while. Unsurprisingly the results are too much of a jumble to make much sense, though Fenimore is beginning to feature more prominently in them. Disappointed that she couldn't get more, she decides to set up a broadcast because even if she can't get a proper Setsubun ceremony going this year, Rei feels she should at least do something.]

Good afternoon, Luceti, and welcome to any New Feathers that have just arrived. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Rei Hino and I run Tsukino Shrine, across the river from the Flame building. It's a peaceful place and it's open to visitors at any time, regardless of spiritual beliefs.

As today is a sort of traditional festival day in my world, I'll be offering fortune telling and flame readings to anyone who visits today. If you have an interest in knowing a bit more about your future, your luck, or other things, feel free to come by and I will be happy to help you.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knows much about carpentry. There are some parts of the shrine that are beginning to get a little worn and some improvements I'd like to make, though I need some help with that. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated. I'm more than happy to offer what services I can in return. Baking, limited enchanting, exorcisms, omamori and other charms, or even just help with yardwork.

[And she bows to the camera before turning off the feed.]

[As promised, Rei is at the shrine, and while she'll be replying to journals she'd prefer in person visits!]

[He was teasing...but, he also genuinely did not want to find out about what her definition of a curse was.]

[She laughs nervously.]

I...do, I just don't light heights much.

Ah, I see. I'm afraid we never got a chance to meet. But if he wasn't happy being here, then perhaps it's for the best that he was returned, whatever his fate may be.

[Manifestations of the human soul aside, Kanji doesn't do ghosts. Although, to be fair, he's not as bad as Yosuke~!]

I've never seen one, so... it's kinda hard to believe they're real. Although, being here is slowly changing what's real and what's not, I guess.

[He scratches at the back of his neck as he looks around again.]

So, uh, where do you want me for this?

True enough. [Shrugging, Rei gives Jack a warm smile.]

Well, shall we go inside?

[Spirits and Ghosts are not the same thing, Kanji!]

Well, I need you to write your name on this paper.

[She slides one over, along with a calligraphy brush. Any decent kid knows how to use one for their name, at least. That's elementary ed.]

[They are to him. He doesn't want much to do with anything that he can't easily explain. The only reason he went after Adachi and Namatame was because they made him involved.

Well, and he wanted to get to know the people who'd saved him from death and loneliness back in Inaba.]

Can do! That's pretty easy.

[He takes the brush and with a few sure, steady strokes, his name is showing in all of its infinite glory: 巽完二.]

What's next?

Yes, let's.

[She can lead the way; he isn't going to be rude and push on ahead.]

[That gave him something to think about-- a young woman with immense power over fire, who fought forces that were tainted with malice and evil, and who was something on par with a deity herself in a few ways...was afraid of heights?

He cracked a grin.]

Then don't look down. Just look at the sky.

[He placed his hands on the ladder, stabilizing it from above, and offered a hand.]

[She's just a little nervous is all. But she trusts Cliff enough to take his hand and let him pull her up.]

[She watches, nodding approvingly. It's good, it means he's not a total nitwit.]

Now you wait, of course.

[And she takes the paper, gesturing for Kanji to make himself comfortable on a floor cushion.]

[She was light, like any teenage girl, and very easy to pull up. Cliff helped her to her feet once she was up with him, but didn't let go immediately.]

There we go-- how do ya feel?

[And up she goes, pushing the door aside and leaving her shoes behind.]

[She is very light, maybe 100 pounds wet...because she's also short and slender even for a teenage girl.

Looking around, she carefully avoids looking down, and nods.]

I'm alright. It's more the act of getting up this high when I'm not transformed that bothers me. But thank you for asking.

[He nods and makes a movement towards the water, but suddenly stops to look back at her.]

I'm afraid I won't be able to that quite as well as you'd like.

[Anakin holds up his gloved hand towards Rei.]

This one isn't exactly the same as it used to be. I had a bit of an accident with it. ... Will that be a problem?

So long as it's clean, no.

[It shouldn't, though she assumes it's a wooden hand or a regular prosthetic instead of a cybernetic implant...]

All right.

[She's in for a surprise then. He takes off his glove to reveal his robotic hand and goes to the water to wash both hands in the cool liquid. As he dips his mechno-arm into the water two thoughts rush through his mind.

One: He should tinker with it some more.

And two: It still ached after all this time.

But neither of those things were why he was here.

After finishing he left his glove near the water and walks back over to Rei, his metal hand now in plain view.]

Now what?

[For a long moment she just stares at that hand. Because that's the total opposite of what she'd expected. Wow. Just...that's new.

Shaking her head she responds after jerking herself out of the daze.]

Now we need to go inside. When we do, please take off your shoes.

Aah. [He nodded in understanding and let go-- but was sure to keep an eye on her.] Makes sense. It's not something normal to do.

How are ya with looking around at everything?

I'm fine. Really.

[She's breathing a little faster than normal, but seems to be under control, and she steps away from the edge, looking at the damaged sections of the roof.]

This is what I was talking about.

[At least his mechno-arm looked better than it originally did. It was really freaky looking before.

Before he turns to walk towards the shrine, he gives her another look.]

Thank you for doing this. I do appreciate it. There is much about my future I really want to know.

It doesn't look too bad, [Cliff said, after studying the damage for a moment.] All we'll need is some tar paper, shingles, and nails, and not even a heck of a lot.

[He crouched down to get a closer look.]

The tar paper might even hold for now-- you have any problems with leaks?

It's quite alright. It's my duty, as a miko. I'm supposed to help people however I can.

[Up she heads, slipping out of her shoes.]

Though, I don't believe you've told me your name.

[He does the same, though it takes him a bit longer. He hopes this is last article of clothing he will have to remove because he'd hate to have to explain this one to Padme.]

Oh, right. I apologize. My name is Anakin Skywalker. You said your name is Rei Hino, correct?

[Nope, just the shoes. Gosh Anakin, she's seventeen...]

I did, Skywalker-san. Are you by chance related to Luke Skywalker?

[She's...avoided the man, but she knows Ami is in love with him, so she feels it may be worth asking.]
