☆CHARACTER
Character Name: Rei Hino
Age: 18
Species: Human
Canon: Sailor Moon (Manga)
Canon Point: Post Canon (pre-Usagi's Wedding)
Character Info: Wikimoon Sailor Moon Wiki Series Overview
Personality:
As a note, I play Rei exclusively from the Manga, not the anime. The two versions of the character are drastically different.

Rei Hino is often described as the ideal Japanese woman, with a regal bearing that causes even Luna to believe she’s the Princess. She is beautiful, intelligent, and reserved, with a penchant for being somewhat aloof. To people that she does not know, she often comes across as cold and uncaring, or sarcastic and distant. This is caused at least in part by her strange psychic abilities, which have made some local people afraid of her. It's because of this that she created a sort of mental and emotional barrier that she uses to keep people out. It also lends strength to her notably biting wit when it comes to dealing with people that annoy her.

She lives up to her title of the Soldier of Flame and Passion, though, as when she sets herself to a task she dedicates herself fully to it, approaching it with her whole heart. This can cause her to sort of tunnel vision, and her passion is a bit of a double edged sword by her own admission. She focuses on things or people too much, and worries that she'll burn them up with her dedication.

She has a bit of a temper as well, like fire. When pressed, Rei will get extremely angry and lash out at anyone bothering her with her words. She isn't physically violent usually (though she can), but she has a tendency to say very mean things when she's angry, and she holds grudges for life if you really wrong her in some way. Her temper isn't about yelling and screaming tantrums, but it is extremely heated and passionate. She has buttons and it doesn't matter who you are, if you press some of those then be prepared for a very, very, unfriendly reaction. When it comes to the super-heroic aspects of her life, Rei is bold and aggressive, like the fire she's so attuned to. She doesn't defend well, she just attacks, leaving this up to the rest of her team. Which is in keeping with her temper.

This, however, is a bit different when dealing with her close friends, the other Senshi in particular. She often attempts to act as a sort of big sister towards them, though her maturity and distant nature often find themselves at odds with her overenthusiastic companions. Rei genuinely cares for each and every one of them in different ways, and it shows despite her best efforts to hide it. When the facade does break, she can be every bit as enthusiastic and friendly as Usagi is bubbly, but such displays are extremely rare.

Another major personality trait for Rei is her distrust of men. She has had very few respectable males in her life, and as such has formed a relatively low opinion of them, regarding them as emotionally weak. Her father, in particular, helped craft this opinion, having abandoned her emotionally when she was very young due to his work. Rei genuinely seems disinterested in romance of any sort, and even discourages her friends from forming romantic attachments. She's not above using men (as we see her do at the beach to get free drinks) to get things that she wants though, she just doesn’t particularly trust them.  That said? She has managed to form a lasting friendship with Mamoru Chiba and Motoki Furuhata, but she is still a fairly bitter person. She never, ever forgives her father throughout the course of the canon for essentially abandoning both her and her mother to further his career. To her he is the very vision of someone not to become, and she hates him with an incredible passion.

The trait that most sets Rei apart from the other people, though, is her spirituality. She is a Shinto priestess, or miko, at the Hikawa shrine and is deeply committed to it. She dreams of becoming the head priest at the shrine in the future, eventually taking over for her grandfather. Shinto, the spiritual native religion of Japan, holds a major influence over nearly every aspect of her life. She disdains modern society, maintaining that it is better to practice the old ways rather than the new. Rei is skilled at meditation, and makes it a point to center herself nightly. She observes various Shinto rituals, and as such could be described as a superstitious person. For Rei, the spirits of the world are very much real, and very much important. Her anachronistic ways do often put her at odds with friends, particularly her dislike of many modern things. Television, video games, and other parts of most teenagers’ lives are things she actively avoids.

Rei’s relationship with the others is also somewhat different due to her family’s wealth. She attends a private (EXPENSIVE), Catholic school, as opposed to the other Senshi, who all go to public schools. She summarily has received a better basic education in many ways, which is something that occasionally causes her to snark at them. She can also be described as somewhat snotty, and definitely not interested in the foolishness that people often engage in, not just her friends. This prominently is displayed in her dealings with less refined individuals. She often gets cold, displaying her sarcastic side a bit more prominently.

Faith, Loyalty and Duty. These are also characteristics that are absolutely essential to Rei and to all of the other Sailor Senshi. Rei has actually died to protect Usagi with total conviction in her ability to carry through and save everyone. She's willing to put it all on the line for a victory, which marks a major growth in her. Early in the series she was headstrong and wanted to work alone but time and teamwork did wear her down. She's become someone who can just put herself second for the good of a group, set aside her fear and desire to make things work, and just act as a part of a team. That's what the Sailor Senshi do, all of them, but Rei has often been shown to be among the most loyal and dedicated. She takes hits for her friends, goes into danger alone so that others can escape, and uses her bold, aggressive nature to force her way forward and get others to let her help.

☆INTERSTELLAR
Genre Preferences:
Pop, Rock, and Classical
Choice Instrument: Bass Guitar, Piano/Keyboard, Electric Violin
Rockstar Persona:
I'd like Rei's Rockstar Persona to really not be all that different from her canon self, with a few alterations and exaggerations.

Starting with a generalized backstory, Rei Hino grew up in much the same way as she did in canon. The daughter of wealth, with a dead mother and a horribly neglectful father, she was left in the care of her grandfather. A deeply religious man, he pushed her towards faith in the same way as her real self took to it, but instead of embracing it completely she decided to leave as soon as she was old enough in pursuit of stardom. It's one part restlessness, another part rebelliousness, and a final part seeking to not be lonely anymore. And it's this that led her to whichever record label she “signed on with.”

Rei presents herself as the cool and aloof beauty, and is still absolutely willing to use her looks to manipulate people into doing what she wants. She knows people find her attractive, and instead of playing coy with it or resenting it, she's embraced it as a means to an end. Gender isn't as much of an issue thanks to the brainwashing, and her disdain for men on the whole is gone, instead focused entirely on her father. Basically, rather than projecting her issues onto all men she's focused them on her father exclusively.

Now, underneath that cold exterior is a wonderfully passionate, vibrant personality that shines through on stage. Rei loves music, she loves playing, and being a part of a band. She gets a huge charge out of performing and really feeling the crowd's energy, and even draws on that to make her play harder. It's what she wants to do, and it's how she's able to express herself.

The front she puts on for the audience is that of a gentle, upstanding, slightly shy young woman who loves being up on stage. She also gives off a bit of a vibe to the crowd of general vulnerability, of basically being the good-girl, and of being someone so into the music that it's a part of them. She's definitely not the ice queen, just the untouchable girl that charms the crowd with her looks and her music, along with a hint of loneliness. It's appealing, particularly to the folks in her age category, and easily marketable.

Offstage, she's a little less shy, and while kind has a certain bitterness to her, though she rarely directs it at bandmates. Generally she's the cool headed, reasonable one until someone steps on her toes and then she's liable to snap, be rude and sharp-tongued, and all in all not quite as friendly as she usually is.

Ideal CR:
Ideally, I'd like for CR to be amiable, with occasional personality conflicts that might lead to less extreme clashes. Basically people who might make the neat-freak in her cringe and freak out, but who can still be her friend at the end of the day. People she can comfort or YELL at for being stupid, and relate to without agreeing with them 100% of the time. People she can scold or who will drag her out, or people who she can lineface at when they do something stupid. That kind of stuff. Her canon group covers a wide range of personalities, and she can get along easily with just about anyone.

Basically? A group of friends/sort of family-like atmosphere, with the sorts of weird conflicts that come with it.

I'd rather avoid grouping her with trolls if possible, though. Steady streams of antagonistic snark aren't fun for me to play off of.
