I'm worried. I can meet you somewhere this afternoon, if you'd like. Getting away from the penthouse would be great.
no subject
where do you want to meet
no subject
One hour?
text -> action
Sure enough, one hour later he enters Dio's cafe, dressed in a nondescript sweater and a
bizarretotally stylish hat, courtesy Koumei. Trying to blend in, yo.He spots Rei at the back and slides into the chair opposite her, trying for a small smile. "Hey. Good to see you again."
no subject
"Ordered you hot chocolate when I felt you come in."
no subject
"When you felt me come in?"
no subject
And that's...worth a frown at least.
"It's been happening a lot lately.]
no subject
"How lately? Since the..." He lowers his voice and makes a wavey gesture with one hand, which somehow is supposed to convey something supernatural. "...haunting stuff, or before that?"
no subject
She frowns a little and pushes his hand down.
"I'm psychic, I've discovered. And I've had some other strange things happen lately. But this isn't why I wanted to meet. Are you okay? With everything?"
no subject
"Yeah, everything's all right so far. It's mostly been a repeat of stuff that happened back when we were first signed, y'know, electronics acting up and stuff moving or disappearing."
He hesitates, takes a sip of cocoa and twists the mug back and forth in his hands before looking back up at Rei. "But...I've been feeling kind of weird, too. Like - different. Like there's something I'm supposed to find, or someplace I'm supposed to be, but I can't figure out what."
His tone is quiet, and then he leans forward to confide in a near-whisper, "And then there was this...episode in a supply closet."
no subject
"What happened with that?"
no subject
"It was one of those things where I felt like I was someone else again, but this time was - different. I mean it felt really - not like me at all, like it didn't - fit, y'know? And I, or whoever it was, he was standing outside in this alley at night with Anansi, y'know her? And they talked some and then she asked him, like - 'What do you remember about your homeworld?'"
Jamie looks up at Rei. His voice is still hushed, just audible over the ambient noise of the diner. "Nothing like that's ever happened before. I dunno who the guy was, but it definitely wasn't me. And what'd she mean by 'homeworld'? That's like - some weird sci-fi shit."
Yosuke had said much the same thing one time. Maybe he was on to something.
no subject
Rei keeps her voice low but flat. He's starting to figure it out too. So, may as well put another card on the table.
"We're not from this place. My band and I started thinking about it, and we're starting to believe that we were kidnapped. I mean you saw what Blanche and Santiago can do. Why not cross between dimensions or whatever? We were definitely brainwashed, too. Made to forget things."
no subject
"You think so, huh," he murmurs finally. "We're actual, literal aliens." He lets out a short, humorless laugh. "Maybe the Vista City Arcane wasn't just pulling stuff out of its ass after all."
He takes another gulp of his cocoa, wishing it was something a little stronger. "If that's true, though - why? Why would they wanna kidnap and brainwash a bunch of people just to be rockstars?"
no subject
That question was one they'd all struggled with. And they had no good answer.
"I have no idea why. I mean, it seems like a lot of trouble, especially since some of us obviously have supernatural talents. I won't even pretend to guess what that means."
no subject
He pauses. "Unless the supernatural stuff is what makes us special. Maybe they're, like...converting that power into the ability to make music as good as we do. Or they were, until people started regaining their powers."
no subject
no subject
"And maybe using people like us is why Pride and Virgo are as big as they are, compared to all the other music labels around. Something about us, people like us, makes for...really great music. Somehow." He looks a little perplexed as he says this, for fairly obvious reasons.
no subject
Because as far as she can tell, Pao-Lin and Luce don't have them. Which is a whole other angle.
"Anyway. That's...what I wanted to say. That's...what we've been guessing."
