faithfulflame | Sixth Prayer: Opening a Shrine [Action/Voice]

[Rei is having a really good day for the first time in a long, long while. The shrine she'd requested Brave Vesperia's help on was finally completed, and it was an absolutely lovely place. Though simple in design, and smaller than Hikawa Jinja at home, the newly christened Tsukino Jinja was enough to make the normally reserved girl beam in delight. She wasn't the sort to run around squealing, but inwardly she was definitely making some very unrefined sounds of glee! The young miko definitely had her work cut out for her, decorating it, though.

The central honden was a single, cozy tatami room with an altar and a brazier set up for meditation, prayer, and flame reading. It would be warm and dry, much nicer than the tent she'd been using for such things. The guild had even erected a small fence, and a proper torii gate in the entrance. Rei had consecrated the ground herself, hard work that she loved. There was something refreshing about meditation, purification, and preparing all of the sacred things that went into preparing the temple. It served a dual purpose, this ritual was also a way for the girl to wash away her sadness at losing yet another friend. Viral's things had disappared from House 3 shortly after the Kin'Corans had vanished. She'd appreciated the Beastman and his strange, inhuman ways, but it wasn't nearly as harsh as losing Usagi.

Rei can be found working at the shrine throughout the entire day, carving, doing calligraphy, and working various forms of Shinto rites. Its not finished, but she's accepting visitors and offering flame readings.

Around lunchtime, she opens up the journal and sends out a few messages]

Hello everyone, this is Rei Hino. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who worked on the shrine building. Words are not enough to convey how grateful I am for your hard work, so I made something for each of you. If you have time, please visit me here and I will give it to you, along with a blessing.

Good Afternoon, Luceti. My name is Rei Hino, and I would like to welcome all of the New Feathers who've just begun arriving. I hope that you are able to adjust to life here without much difficulty. If there is anything that I can do to help, please feel free to contact me.

I would also like to announce the opening of the Tsukino Shrine. It is a place for anyone who wishes to come and recieve a fortune telling, a blessing, or a charm. Also, it is open for anyone who wishes to come and meditate or find a quiet place to spend time. I hope that everyone who visits can find some measure of peace and good cheer here. Please come visit and enjoy the shrine. The person it is dedicated to would have loved having many visitors who spend time here. I would also make it known that should anyone be interested, I will be offering flame readings every day barring shifts and other complications.

Finally, I'd like to inform those that knew him that Viral-san has returned home. If you wish to offer a traveler's prayer for him, then please do not hesitate to visit me and I can show you how to do so. I know that he will need a lot of luck and well wishes in his home, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

[She gestures to several cloth streamers inscribed with complex kanji that are attached to posts around the ground, as well as trees]

Mine aren't nearly as special, or potent, as your magic I think. But they should work against dark spirits.

Given the n-nature of the two, ah, wards and things I-I'm sure it'll be fine.

[ Helios looks at them with a smile and shakes his head. ] I'm not so sure a-about that. I-I mean you are a powerful miko. Y-Your powers against these things is just as potent as anyone else's.

[ He gives Rei a little smile. ] Th-thank you for, um, a-allowing me to w-work on this with you. [ Because she didn't have to ask him of all people to lend a hand. ]

"Uh-oh. I'm not getting replaced, am I?"

I chuckled and walked up to the pair, clapping Helios on the shoulder.

"Actually, I'm glad you're here. I was hoping you could do a once-over of the wards I'd focused on the grounds and on the gate."

Not at all. I'm nothing if not cautious.

[Rei smiles at the incredibly tall wizard]

I don't want to risk anything I don't have to, and if need be I'd like for this to serve as a shelter in times of trouble. If we have an outbreak of youkai, or ghosts, or vampires.

[ Good lord Harry you came out of nowhere! So what does Helios do? He jumps of course, especially at the hand clapping him on the shoulder. He is so not used to that action, bro, but if you keep doing it he might get over his inherent phobia of that movement. Helios curbs his flinch with a sheepish laugh and ducking of his head. ]

N-No, not at all. The m-more differing wards, the better. I-I wouldn't mind that at all. R-Rei does have a point, with this place of course, e-especially with H-Halloween coming around soon.

Jumpy as ever, I guess. It occurred to me that I was probably the least skittish person here, and that made me a bit uncomfortable, so I withdrew the hand.

"Hell, it was a joke. The more, the merrier, I say."

I flashed Rei a quick glance.

"Actually, protective spells for this place might not be a bad project for the magic group, next time we meet."

I had thought the same thing. And enchanting the gate, that might also be a good project. [Rei strokes her chin gently]

This could be a site of power for anyone with the means to draw on it. Not just me, and other miko.

A magical repository... [ Helios lets out a curious hum as he taps his chin in thought. ]

It could definitely work, if we had the right spells and bindings. Though I-I'm not sure how, ah, s-safe it would be...

[ Potent magic just coalescing together in one place like that. ] Someway to keep it in balance could help too.

"... Wait. I have an idea."

I grinned.

"Remember my artificial ley line experiment? What if we did something like that? It could basically catch the excess magic and keep it flowing in an orderly fashion before. Like a gutter, sort of. Could use it to power the wards, too."

That sounds like it could work very well. Combining all our magic, we could make something much, much stronger. And...using the magic of the land here?

The honden could act as a focus and the torii gate as an outlet and entrance. This...could be a great idea.

It'll act as a conduit for magical sources throughout the village. [ Helios' smile widens. ]

This could be a rather interesting little project. I-I think it could work very well for it's intended purpose. It's getting all that magic and excess energy to fall in line that'll be the tricky part. But your wards and such could be used to make a...barrier to keep all that energy from exploding outward.

"Absolutely. And the excess energy could probably be put to use as well, if I ever needed a source of energy for powerful enchantments or something."

I frowned and glanced at Rei.

"Assuming that wouldn't be, like, sacrilegious or something?"

No, I don't think so. As I said, the shrine is dedicated to everyone here, and those who've returned home. It would be best for people here to use it, yes?

Just so long as you pay homage, or give an offering, then it should be fine. Rice, water, burned hair, something like that will suffice, and likely fuel the consecration.

Then th-that's what we'll do. It's a lovely idea and I think it'll h-help a lot of people in the long run. Perhaps using a...focus sigil c-could help keep things in a single contained area.

[ Sigils like that required some practice, but Helios things he can do it. With a little help...and some time, it could work with the other wards and powers to keep things stable. ]

Can you work that? I...only have a vague idea of what that might be.
