Tenth Prayer: Fanning the Flames [Action/Video]

[What a week! Rei couldn't remember a time she'd been more exhausted in her life. The minute she made it in the door of House 3 she'd just dropped into bed like a wilting flower. And she'd slept. For days. When she finally managed to get up and feel...human...again, though, she had things to address. Lots of things.

And the first thing on that list? The shrine. And preparations for a trap she planned to lay on two unwary wizards. After that, she had promises to keep and work to do. This was going to be a long day...]

Action

[Rei spends the early part of the day around Tsukino Shrine. She's been gone for more than a week, and the whole thing needs a bit of tending, just basic chores. While she works, Phobos and Deimos play around the small courtyard, flapping around merrily in the spring breeze. It's a pretty nice time, a far cry from the insane battle the week before. Anyone's welcome to come by and help out with chores, or setting up for her foray into forced match-making.

Midmorning, before she sits down to have lunch she opens her journal and sends out a broadcast. Phobos and Deimos are probably pawing around the camera, being nosy birds as usual.]

Good afternoon, Luceti. This is Rei Hino. I would like to inform you that fortune telling at Tsukino Shrine will resume today as normal. I'd also like to express my sincerest condolences to anyone who was injured on the draft last week, and even more to those who lost someone in battle. Words...fail me at the moment, but if you are in need of a place to pray or find a peaceful place to think, you are welcome to use the shrine here for that. I hope you are able to find some measure of solace, however you choose to seek it. If you need me for anything, I will be here until six this evening for fortune telling or prayer services.

Additionally, I would like to ask a question. What are ways that you've learned to relieve stress? Particularly after a battle. How would you go about creating an atmosphere to help people relax? I have a small project that I'm working on down this vein, and I could use some suggestions. I would appreciate it a lot.

[A little later she sends out 3 more filtered broadcasts]

Helios-san, can you visit the shrine tonight at around seven? There is something very important I need to discuss with you. I'll prepare dinner, so please come hungry. This may take some time, as well. And it's a sensitive issue, so I'd appreciate it if you could leave your journal at home.

That's a great idea; I'd be happy to give it a try! [ Barriers were a cinch, even though she had no idea how well her powers would work now that she was back in Luceti--it should be enough with both her and Rei, however; she can't imagine them trying too hard to leave.

At the mention of food, her head bounces in agreement. ]

A candlelit dinner. [ A swoon, her head in the clouds. ] I think that sounds wonderful, Rei; they couldn't possibly want to leave if there's food. [ Of course, she wouldn't want to leave if there's food. ] It would be so romantic! We'll need to make certain there's a dessert, too.

[With that, Ai returned the smile and pulled her hands out of the pockets of her jeans, ready to assist with whatever Rei assigned her to.]

Okay, then. What do you need me to do?

[Curiously, she looked around the two of them as well, seeing if there was anything that needed to be done.

The Tsukino Shrine could be seen through a window from Ai's apartment nearby, and she was already familiar with it, having talked about it with Rei before as well. It resembled those she'd seen before in Kibitou, but she hadn't been particularly interested in them before. This in particular was inviting, however, particularly the fact that it was right on the riverbank, too, and was much more peaceful than the ones she remembered.]

What are you planning for the evening?

Wonderful! Working together I'm sure we can make it stronger.

[Because she knows Helios and his tendency to run from things that might make him slightly uncomfortable.]

I'm glad you agree. I knew you'd be the right person to ask, Usagi-chan. Really, I'm still just...no good with these things. What sort of food do you think would be best? I was considering cooking something Japanese. But I'm sure you'd have good ideas for desserts.

Well it's a lesson I'm glad you learned.

[In his experience it helped to be specific when talking about those things, sure, no one cared but he had no reason to not talk about it.]

Ah, it's in the Gifu prefecture. It's rather secluded, takes an hour to get there on bike from the closest town. In a way this place is somewhat similar to it, though Luceti is smaller.

I'm trying to make it up to her. I- I think she's a little scared of me.

O-Oh good. I-I confess I'm not...not used to these sorts of things. It's...been a very long time. [ And there's a touch of sadness in his voice as he admits that. But it was probably obvious, even without Helios mentioning it. He huffs a laugh, a hand running through his hair to the back of his neck. ]

Oh dear. I guess we better start writing our thank you letters.

[ He laughs though and nods in acknowledgement. ]

She did. I'm glad she made as much as she did then.

To pay my respects.

...And to visit.

[He can't say he'd exactly call it prayer.]

I'm kind of... I like it. A lot. Being touched I mean. Even just casual stuff. So you don't need to worry about it not being welcome.

[He hoped that didn't sound as weird as it did now he thought it over. He did reach out though, resting his hand over Helios's, giving it a gentle squeeze. He knows that Helios isn't as comfortable as he is; it's something he'll have to work on, work out the boundaries, but maybe that encouragement might help? He doesn't even know but he might actually get time to work it out.]

We probably should. And I can see her saying 'I told you so' in that particular tone of voice.

Yeah, it smells really good too. She's pretty sneaky.

I just felt a little bad coming with nothing to offer.

[Saizou snorts and buries his face under the hems of Souji's kimono, leaving his lower half sticking out. That is his way of saying he feels bad. ...Sort of.]

Shall I help?

I make charms and do prayer services. Also it's...sort of a private sanctuary for me. Though anyone is welcome to make use of the grounds.

Give it time, Max. Sabriel is a very forgiving person.

[Viral had hurt her, Rei had too, and they were still friends after all.]

[She takes a sip from her teacup, turning to look at the fire]

It's after battle that I get the most visitors, but it's been quiet this time. Hopefully that means there were less deaths.

Yea. Something like that is also good after what happened. Kinda like...kinda like going home and sleeping on your bed-- not one of those cots or someone else's bed, but your bed.

...It might be fun to go see the place sometime. Seeing the art in these places is always cool, and I've gotta say that I'm curious about what you do there.

Yeah I- I know it's only been... not even a week. I just- I wish there was more I could do.

Well, that's nice. Those places can be very peaceful.

[And frankly, she'd like that more than Tokyo if it was manageable. Better to be farther from her father, and all the noise]

I've visited a few rural areas like that, and I've always enjoyed my trips.

I could use help dusting things inside, I'm mostly finished outside. I've just been away for a week, and everyone else who works here was too.

[She steps up onto the platform around the shrine and removes her shoes before entering the central building proper.]

As...for why? I'm planning on doing a little matchmaking for two friends of mine. They're in love and can't say the words. So...I mean to engineer a situation for them to be able to.

[It doesn't take her too long to have all of the tea prepared and served up, along with a little tray of multicolored dango.

She even sets out a smaller one for Saizou, if he feels inclined.]

Yes, exactly.

Aside from Sabriel, did everything go alright? Are you...okay?

[He always feels inclined. As soon as the tray is out for him, he speeds out from behind Souji and starts eating. Food is delicious.

Souji sighs and smiles, accepting his tea.]

Thank you, Hino-san. I apologise for making you do all these preparations, but thank you for having me over.

I will. I promised to go see her every day.

[Okay? Was he okay?]

I killed someone on the draft. And- one of my housemates, he was killed. I managed to freak out the others pretty badly too.

Was the person you killed an enemy? And...who died?

[She doesn't want to pry, but...]

We'll need to set a date then. It'll be fun, and I can't say that I've ever had my fortune told by anyone.

Yeah. A- a cultist. I stabbed them.

[He speaks very quietly at that, feeling a little sick.]
