Unfortunately, I didn't discover anything new, interesting, or useful. This trip would have been better if I did.

I saw a little something interesting in Ardeo's caves. The paintings.

But...for the most part it was a waste.

I'm not an aesthetics person in the first place, unfortunately.

[What a lie. He's totally into beautiful swords.]

The paintings pointed to some interesting things though. I think they might have been of the world's native peoples.

I'm not a xenoarchaeologist either, unfortunately. There's no doubt that some people might find what was found interesting but I get the feeling you'll just find traces of colonization everywhere. That's what these corporations do but on a galactic scale rather than a planetary one.

Right. I'm actually interested in archaeology. But...what I meant more? Was that the paintings were somehow tied to the ghosts I saw last month. Do you remember them?

Well, whatever the ghosts made me see? I saw again on the walls of the caves. That's unusual.

I could think of a few reasons for that. Unfortunately, none of them can be substantiated.

It's speculation on my part, but I do have some basis at least, from my experiences.

The information still isn't worth too much until we find the reasoning behind it. Otherwise, it may just be a red herring.

Yes, but still something of note. More than we had before.

Was your shop alright? No robots damaging it?

If you're worried about where you're going to get your food, don't. Everything is quite pristine.

No, I'm not. I can cook, you know. However, I'm glad to hear it. I've just noticed a few things off about how the colony was put back together again.

[Too bad her girlfriend can't cook though. He didn't know about the blue one, though.]

Oh, just things put in strange places. Like I found cinnamon and curry powder in the bathroom this morning, and all of my vitamin pills in the spice rack.

In short, whoever or whatever rebuilt everything has no idea how normal humans function.

Well it was robots knowing CERES, but something to keep in mind when you go back to work.

That does bring up a good point. How are we sure the robots around aren't actually a race of beings that have been enslaved?

We aren't. It's possible, though that seems like quite a lot of work for CERES, which...isn't really something I see them willing to do.

Unless there are interstellar slavers or something. A chilling thought, and a little outlandish but...not impossible.

On a political scale, considering the vast distances that inhibit operation and communication, more centralized governments such as dictatorships and monarchies would be the natural choices. This is an environment where representative based governments would fall apart, meaning that slavery is all the more likely.

So are you fond of Frank Herbert's Dune? [Yes she's familiar.] Or have you traveled off the Earth as well?

[swordboning]

No and no. Of course, my views are very Earth-centric but I've yet to see anything to change my opinion.

[faithfulflame]

Well, it's possible. Not something I'd consider terribly likely, but we could always take one apart and see.
