Oh. Well for the most part no, they don't remember it well. Some things are unavoidable, but a lot of people think it's fake, or a hoax. And the people that do really believe often don't want to talk about it because it's magic. And in the end? Normal people just want to go on about their lives. So...they shrug it off as a dream. Or as a big dog biting them or something. A lot of crime went unsolved though.
[It's...basically complicated.]
The scientist, though? He died. He was so far gone, corrupted and evil by Pharoah 90 that he was an unavoidable casualty.
Both the fortunate and unfortunate part of being a hero, huh? You can keep your identity secret but sometimes things are still out of your hands to fix. [There's a short pause, debating if he wants to bring this piece up.]
...but I think I get it. There were some things that happened back home that were unavoidable, too. People who were too corrupted to avoid being punished...but the punishment changed. I changed my mind.
That's all part of our job though. Making sure normal people can go on with their lives and not worry about stuff like that. I guess I'm just...sorry it happened for you guys. It's a lot to deal with on top of trying to be one of the normal people.
Don’t apologize for it. It’s what we were born to do, and what we were meant to do. It might seem sad, but it’s something I accepted a long time ago. I did have a choice to stop, in the beginning, but I didn’t. And for better or worse, my fate is bound to that of Sailor Moon and the Sailor Senshi now. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Especially now.
[Resolve flows off her, eyes closing and a small smile creeping across her lips.]
But we’re not finished, of course. We’re not even at the finale, because I haven’t talked about Nehellenia and Galaxia yet. [A breath.] And they are by far the most dangerous beings I’ve ever encountered. Even here.
[Palms flat on the table, Rei goes on.]
The story of Nehellenia starts a few months after we recovered poor Sailor Saturn, during a solar eclipse. I was visited by visions of danger and trouble, which tends to signal the beginnings of a turbulent time, and so was Sailor Neptune. Snatches of memory started coming back to us, not just myself and Neptune, but all ten of us that were alive during the Silver Millennium. Memories of a story told to us by the Queen about something that happened on the day the princess was born. An enemy roughly the parallel of Queen Serenity herself, hailing from a kingdom buried beneath the moon’s surface, came before the Queen and denounced the Moon Kingdom and the nine planets that housed Sailor Senshi. She vowed to destroy us all, and claim the solar system as her own.
The Queen defeated her easily enough, sealing her inside a dark mirror and casting her back below the surface of the Moon, but not before Nehellenia cast a curse upon the Kingdom. She said the Princess would never take the throne, and the Kingdom would die. That…as you already know, occurred with the help of Metallia, but because she was trapped in the mirror she did not die when Sailor Saturn ended Metallia’s attack and the Queen cast our spirits forward to be reincarnated. [Which she may have forgotten to mention, whoops.]
Well...during the eclipse, the seal weakened, and she freed herself and set about attempting to make sure her curse came about, and steal the Ginzuisho. She send her agents, four lesser Senshi from moons or planetoids throughout the Solar System calling themselves the Amazon Quartet she'd enslaved with her power, along with her enforcers to Earth disguised as a circus and started causing trouble. Disappearances, attacks and skirmishes against us, that sort of thing. We...dealt with the Quartet and her other minions, but confronting her directly required help.
So, we did something we'd never done before. We returned to our castles on our respective homeworlds, and activated them to draw on more energy. I'm not sure if what I saw in Phobos and Deimos castle could be considered technology or magic, but the power from it...[Rei closes her eyes, remembering the way it flowed...] It was incredible. And that, combined with Sailor Moon's abilities was enough to put down Nehellenia once and for all. [Leaving out Helios, but...Helios is convoluted and hard to explain without directly talking about Chibiusa as...Chibiusa.]
In the end, she was cast down and unmade, never to return. And the Amazon Quartet was freed of their bond and sent forward in time to act as a Senshi Court for Sailor Chibi-Moon. A rather succinct story, this time, I think.
...probably, but give me some time to really process all of it, okay? This is all stuff that Tadashi and I have grown up hearing about but it was all...you know. Made up. [Anime and manga and who knows what else.] Knowing that it's real and that it's happened to somebody I actually know is sort of a mind-blower. But I appreciate you telling me everything. [There's a tiny grin.] I know it's not easy to tell somebody your entire life story.
Of course. We're really...nearing the end anyway. There's only one more stage of life to cover. I'll let you process before finishing up. It's better broken up into chunks.
[With a small laugh she shakes her head.]
You asked that tell you everything. It's not easy no, but it's not as though I don't expect you to tell me about your adventures too. That is, after all, a fair exchange.
[And that causes him to pause, a strange and uneasy look crossing his features. Right...that would be fair, wouldn't it? But at the same time...there's a lot of reasons why he's not certain he can tell Rei everything about home. It was a miracle that Ruby knew at all. Still, he forces a weak grin to replace the look and he nods, even if he's hunching a bit to curl in on himself a little.]
Right. Fair exchanges are...really fair. [Hiro what.] I think I'm ready for the last part and then I'll ask all of my questions.
This one is a bit easier to talk about. It's shorter, because I was...not present for much of it.
[Rei lowers her head. This was her second...well...third death, really.]
The final enemy was heralded by three arrivals. A group of strangers, Senshi from another galaxy. We called them the Sailor Starlights. They were around for a few months, as were some strange monsters that they seemed capable of fighting. And we thought they had brought them. We were wrong.
[Her eyes flicker around, and there's some evident discomfort.]
These monsters were brought by four evil beings, five ...Senshi from other worlds. They'd followed the Starlights, seeking out life and energy sources in the form of hearts, essentially. (Sailor Crystals). These five Senshi were people who killed their own homeworld's Sailor Senshi and stole their powers. Sailor Iron Mouse, Aluminum Seiren, Lead Crow, Tin Nyanko, and Heavy Metal Papillon. They attacked us eventually...and while they were destroyed, they weren't the real threat.
[Swallowing...]
Hiro-kun. In my world there is a woman who dresses all in gold, a being of immense evil. She's...more powerful than all of my friends combined, with the exception of Sailor Moon, and even then only with the help of the Ginzuisho. If you ever hear the name Galaxia, or Sailor Galaxia, in reference to someone here...I want you to run. I want you to stay as far away as you possibly can. Because she is something else.
[A breath.]
My final death was at her hands, beside Sailor Venus. She destroyed Mars, Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter with little difficulty. We were separated, but even together, I doubt that we'd have stood much chance. Maybe? But it's hard to say.
[Bowing her head, she finishes up.]
Sailor Moon defeated her, though, in a duel at the Galaxy Cauldron. A place where stars are born, and where all life stems. I know next to nothing about it, but I know that Sailor Moon destroyed her, and the being that gave her all that power. But...that's all I know, until we were reborn again.
[Allowing herself a small chuckle.]
After that? It was spring back home, I was about to start university in the fall, and Sailor Moon and the Prince were planning a wedding. Only one day, that all stopped and I woke up here.
[Even as she prefaces it with that, he seems to get exactly why she wasn't present much. He doesn't interrupt as he takes in the last piece of the story.
Sailor Starlights. The fact that there are other Sailor Senshi that weren't the ones working for the the queen of the moon is ominous in and of itself. It screams "impostors!" and it makes him vaguely uncomfortable to know that there were people capable of stealing whole identities somehow. Powers. Things that couldn't be predicted.
But no. Somehow it gets worse and he has to wonder why. Why do these things happen to good people who're destined to fight and save the world? (He knows the answer. It's how things go. Those bound to protect are the ones who're targeted. It still isn't a good feeling.)]
Galaxia. [He repeats the name slowly. It's under his breath, too, so that Rei can continue telling the story and it…worries him to think that someone like Galaxia could be brought to Tellus. If someone could crush five of the most powerful beings in the galaxy, how did other people stand a chance? They didn't. It makes him want to ask more questions and learn more but…it's not the time.]
So…the Cauldron's basically the center of the universe and because Sailor Moon stopped Galaxia everyone was able to have their life restemmed from the Cauldron and start again. And there hasn't been anything since then? Everything went back to…well, whatever normal is for a Sailor Senshi.
[There's a tentative grin.] And then you woke up here. …is it bad to say that at least everything helped prepare you at least a little for the things here? [Not everything. Nothing could fully prepare them for Cerealia, but some are more equip than others. He knows Rei is. He believes he is, too, in some cases.]
[When she finishes, she's prepared for the questions, and she dips her head.]
There's been nothing. Chaos is gone, the being that was behind all of our enemies. Sailor Moon scattered him across the cosmos, and while he'll come back...we'll have peace for now. And it's not too long until it's time to unify the world. Which, well, we're all eager for.
[His grin is returned, a hesitant laugh echoing it all.]
And no, it's not strange. It helped me, sure, but it made it harder too. I'm used to having my friends, people I know I can trust completely. That's not something I quite have with anyone else here, we just don't have the history. But, at least the company is nice, and I'm having new opportunities.
And I'm useful, I can help people without having to hide as much.
Good. I know he'll come back because worlds can't exist without Chaos but it's like trying to put together grains of sand. It'll take a while. [Hiro what.
But he can definitely empathize with that and resonate with it. He likes a lot of people in Cerealia, but the level of trust is also something he's iffy about.] I think the only person here I can really completely trust right now is Tadashi. But that's pretty obvious. [He's weirdly not embarrassed about admitting that.] I trust other people here, too, even if I'm not used to checking in with them or telling them what I'm doing. Sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness later than put people in danger immediately.
[Bad ideas. Bad, bad ideas.] I can help people here. Me and Baymax both and maybe we're not like you guys but I think that's what makes the colony really cool. We can always regroup and help each other when things get too bad. [Even if he still believes he's bigger than he is and that people must be protected.] And you know? Mars is pretty sweet.
[Rei breathes in, and breathes out, slowly and steadying herself as she does. She wants to correct him, to remind him that he's still really young. He's fourteen, and while that's how old she was when she started? He's still very human. She doesn't. She restrains herself, and tries to pass it off as just being shaken from the whole...talking about Galaxia thing.]
You can. Just be careful, okay? Let me know, or Ami-chan or even Minako-chan, if you're going to do something dangerous. Like we talked about before, we have to support one another, and that means a network.
If I think it's that dangerous and something I can't handle, I'll definitely set up something to ask you guys for back-up. I'll be as careful as I can. [It's what he can do. He doesn't even quite trust himself, really. He can't help but chuckle at her repetition of the word.]
I forgot you're from, like, ancient times. [He thinks that might be it.] It's just that she's really cool, you know? Why wouldn't I think that? But I like having you as a friend, too. [He's met both of them, and he likes both of them, but for different reasons. He hopes Rei understands.]
[There's a lot of meaning laced into that. she doesn't want him to die, and she doesn't want him hurt. It's silly, but it's true, because deep down she still thinks you're a hormonal, angsty, ridiculous teenage boy.]
And I suppose so. But, we should probably get back home, huh? Tadashi-san is probably worried, and I need to make sure Minako-chan and Ami-chan have dinner ready.
