I would never lie about something like that.

[That much was...pretty much true. After all, she'd said it wasn't as bad as Rei insisted. She never said it wasn't still bad.]

[Nor would she make such a claim any longer, as she piled on a little more salt. Then another sprinkle, just for good measure. At this rate, she was going to be incredibly thirsty.]

I was taught never to waste food. No matter what, I must finish what I was given.

...especially since I never know when the next meal might come.

[The latter part wasn't a reflection of Hazakura Temple, but of their current location.]

[That's...yeah. The thirst she can deal with, pulling out a water bottle and offering it over.]

But you'll want this. A friend of mine can refill it. Drink as much as you want.

[She definitely understands that line of thinking. Any food was better than starving, even if it tasted awful.]

[The salt did help. The water helped even more. Before long, she was actually making a decent dent in her meal. Something her tastebuds were not too happy about, but her stomach thanked her for greatly.]

A couple of hours, maybe? Not terribly long. It's as good a 'home base' as any, and there are plenty of passersby.

I can say, in all truth, that I have been through much worse than today.

...but not often.

Well, eat, drink. At least that's a thing you can count on. As awful as this stuff is, at least it's not starvation.
