Though yes, they'd definitely go after anyone and everyone they could to get to us. Our...magic is what kept them safe.

[She's quiet for a few moments as she digests that information. To have reason to believe that your presence was directly putting others in danger...] How do you feel about that?

There's not much to say about it, honestly. It is what it is, and there's nothing I can do to change it. So, I accept it and protect my grandfather and the families of my friends the same as anyone else.

[Though...]

Your grandfather's never been in danger because of your actions, has he, Naoto-kun?

Be that as it may, you're allowed to have feelings on the subject one way or another beyond simple acceptance.

[She glances down into her tea.] Not that I'm aware of. The incident you're familiar with could have had dire consequences for the world as a whole, but my involvement in that didn't make it any worse or put him at particular risk. It's possible, I suppose. I had previously thought that the only way to awaken one's Persona was to experience what we did, but meeting another group of Persona users from a different city changed my opinion.

That said, it seems exceedingly rare for people to be able to do so.

[That clicks a few things into place, and Rei has yet another question:]

...yes, that's it exactly.

How did you know? [Wait, of course.] You know Minato-san as well, then.

I’ve met Mitsuru-san, here. We were acquaintances and friends, when I first arrived.

[She raises an eyebrow.]

Minato…Arisato-san? I’ve met him briefly. Is he one of Mitsuru-san’s team? I didn’t even know he had a Persona, though I did get an odd feeling from him.

[Hang on, that's a curve ball. Not only did she not know that Minato had a Persona, despite knowing about Yu, Rise and the others, but she'd met the Kirijo heiress?] You're saying that Mitsuru Kirijo was here, and you met her? Has she since "returned to the Nexus," or however you refer to it?

Strange. Arisato-san didn't mention that she'd been here. [Here, she treads very carefully. She'd let Minato's death inadvertently slip once.] It's my understanding that they were on the same team several years before Narukami-senpai and I met.

I don't know what the relationship between the two of them was at the time I met Kirijo-san. I never met Arisato until I came here.

That's correct. Twice now.

[Admittedly they'd drifted a little bit the second time, but Rei doesn't really think that's important.]

As for Arisato-san, I don't really know him, as I said. But that is interesting. I saw that he'd left and returned through Tadashi-san's app, though I'm not exactly the sort to seek out a stranger.

[A snort.]

But he has a Persona. That explains the feeling.

It bothers me that that's possible. [She says, frowning. That at any time, they can effectively be erased from existence. It might as well be death, right? It's the old teleportation problem; who's to say the reconstituted you is still you?]

It's strange, though. I'd gathered that Arisato-san and Yu-kun were quite close. You were friends with the latter, but not the former?

That's correct. Admittedly, I met Yu-kun through Yosuke, and I've never been as close to Yu-kun as I am to Yosuke. Arisato-san approached me at a meeting.

[A pause. Something clicks into place, that strangely 'off' feeling in Yu for a while.]

Arisato-san and Yu-kun were close, you say? Close in a friendship sense, or a romantic one?

[Nope. Not getting her this time.] You would have to ask him that. All I'd be able to offer is theorizing, and that seems mildly inappropriate and invasive.

That's fair.

[She doesn't care that much.]

Anyway. How's your tea?

It's very good; quite authentic. I suppose Japan is Japan regardless of other interdimensional irregularities.
