Third Prayer: The Future is Written in Flames [Voice/Action] Forward Dated to June 13th

Good afternoon everyone. For those of you who have not met me, my name is Rei Hino. I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all of the New Feathers. I'm sure that you will find something that you enjoy here, and that you will be able to make many friends. If you need any help, please feel free to contact me at any time.

On to other matters, though. Its taken me some time, but I have managed to prepare and purify a small area on the edge of the forest where I can perform flame readings and other types of fortune telling. I do not have much in the way of a shrine, merely a tent and a small consecrated area with which to work, so I hope that doesn't reflect poorly on the experience. In my world, I am a priestess, and I'm fortunate enough to have a gift when it comes to doing such things. If anyone is interested, I will happily use my blessings to offer a reading of your future. It would be my greatest honor to provide my services.

While I cannot guarantee perfect results thanks to our hosts weakening my powers, I feel that its not out of my reach to offer answers to simple questions that you may have about your near future. All that you need to provide is a question and a single hair for a flame reading, or just your question for other types of fortune telling. I have a set of tarot cards if anyone prefers that, but I'm more confident in my abilities at flame visions.

I hope that you find my fortune telling to be enjoyable!

[Rei can be found at the site depicted on the map for most of the day. Its simple enough, a tent that she and the other senshi had found in the item shop, erected as a sort of open air shrine with a carefully prepared brazier on the outside. Near the center is a small round table she'd hauled out of her house, and at the entrance is a bucket of purified water meant to cleanse oneself before a reading. A pair of crows, Phobos and Deimos, dart playfully around the area, hopefully adding to the impression of the site.

Rei greets anyone who comes by with a happy smile and a great deal of enjoyment. She loves using her gifts, and if it brings a measure of peace or enjoyment to someone she's more than glad]

(OOC: If you have Rei do a reading, I'll offer up a generic enough fortune, since they tend to be very vague most of the time. However, if you wish for something more specific or want to use the reading to set something up for future plans, foreshadowing, whatever, please speak with me and we can work out some details! Hit me up in a PM and we can work from there.)

Oh, you have a set of tarot cards? Did you find them at the item shop, or did you make them? I've been looking for a set, you see, but I haven't managed to track one down...

Ah, I made them. Or rather, my friends and I did. We could make another set, if you want?

Really? I'd like that a lot! That is, if you didn't mind? I wouldn't want to trouble you, if you are busy. Keeping up a shrine sounds like a lot of work!

Its not really a whole shrine, though. Just a tent and a brazier that I've consecrated. I don't mind making some cards. And if you want, I can offer you a reading now, too.

That would be lots of fun! I'd love to have a reading done. Maybe I could do one for you, too.

Should I bring materials to make the cards with me? Though oh! How rude of me. I'm sorry, Rei-san. My name is Ryoji Mochizuki. [Normally he goes for -chan with girls, but there's something about Rei's voice and the fact that she runs a shrine that makes him think maybe he ought to stick with something less familiar, though he can't quite resist her first name. It's just too cute not to!]

Sure, if you like, I'd love a reading. It would be helpful if you brought some ink and cards too, Ryoji-san. I guess you can read Japanese, so you won't mind if I write in kanji, right?

[He seems really friendly, and polite too. Thats always a plus!]

I'll be waiting for you.

Nope, not at all! I'm from Japan, so that's perfect, actually.

I'll go get the materials and be over soon~

[ And with that he clicks off and then heads out to collect ink and blank cards, and as long as he's picking up things, he gathers some sugar cookies left-over from when he made a batch for a friend's birthday, figuring he can share them with Rei, too!

And soon enough, he's on his way, though he stops a little ways outside the shrine to watch the crows fly about, laughing a little. It's fun to see them wheel and dart about, though soon enough remembers why he's here. So he calls out. ]

Rei-san, I'm here!

[She quietly waits, tending to the flames and playing with Phobos and Deimos a bit. When he gets near the hill she finds herself watching him from a distance, waving as he calls out]

Ryoji-san? Hello! Come in, come in. I've been waiting for you.

[ He waves right back and smiles brightly, hurrying forward. When he nears her, he gives a slight polite bow, thinking he really ought to be extra respectful! ]

Thank you, Rei-san! I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long... But I brought the materials!

And I also have some cookies for such a lovely lady, too~! [ He holds out the small bag he has with sugar cookies in it. ]

[Well, that's not bad. Cookies and flattery? She bows and gestures for him to put his stuff down on the table.

However, as he nears, Rei gets a very, VERY unusual feeling from the boy. A shadow, a lurking darkness deep within. Nothing overtly evil or tainted, just...dark. Like a shadow spirit, or a death god. She shivers slightly but doesn't say anything.]

Oh, no, I'm planning on being here all day, Ryoji-san. Its no trouble at all, but the cards may take a little time. I'll make them and deliver them when they're done.

And cookies? Thats really sweet of you, too. I have been getting a little hungry.

So, you want to have your fortune told? Tarot cards aren't my specialty, but if you're more comfortable with that...then thats fine.

[ Ryoji is a little too oblivious to notice her shivering - and besides, he's distracted looking around the shrine. ]

Oh, are you sure you don't want help making the cards? And well, I had extra cookies, so I thought I'd bring some to share before they went stale.

I wouldn't mind having my fortune told some other way if you'd prefer. Tarot is the only fortune telling I really know much about...

No, its alright, I'll take care of making them.

[Graciously, she accepts the parcels and gestures towards the brazier]

Have you ever had a flame reading done? That's my specialty.

Thank you so much! [ He shakes his head and moves closer to the brazier. ]

Nope! I've only ever had paper fortunes... How does it work?

Well, you purify yourself like at any shrine, then give me a hair. I'll burn the hair, and then ask the spirits of the flames your future.

[She smiles somewhat mysteriously.]

I see... [ He watches the fire for a few moments before looking around for the bucket, which he shortly thereafter approaches to purify himself with. Once this is completed, he turns back to her and carefully plucks a hair from the top of his head before holding it out. ] Like this?

Yes, just like that. Go ahead and have a seat.

[Rei quietly takes the hair, tosses it into the flames. She claps twice and kneels, opening her mind to the spirits of flame.]

(( ... open and accepting about what he is. ))

[ Ryoji does as he is bid and watches bother hr and the flames, fascinated, and though he is eager to hear what she has to say, he's patient in his waiting, resisting any urge to twitch or wiggle. ]

[After a long moment, Rei turns to Ryoji and takes his hand, sharing the vision she had through her power.

In this vision, Ryoji is standing in the middle of a graveyard, a ring of light surrounding him. Outside the ring, faces, glowing red eyes and Shadows moved, cackling. For a few moments, the ring faded and faded, until it finally broke. The darkness seeped in, and flooded Ryoji's heart, his body flickering back and forth between its normal self and a shadowed form. For a second it looked like darkness would prevail, but after a moment it reversed. Ryoji returned to normal, and then lights all around came on. The graveyard disappeared, replaced by a shrine courtyard, markings of Death Gods ringing everything, a feeling of peace flooding the area.]

That...was interesting.

[ When the vision fades, Ryoji is very solemn and quiet for a few moments, watching the flames without really looking at them. ]

What... do you think it means?

[ he asks eventually. Ryoji has his own thoughts on it, but he's no expert on fortune telling and symbolism, so he's curious to know what Rei has to say besides interesting. He doesn't lift his gaze to meet her eyes, however. ]

Ryoji-san. Before I can answer that question, I need to know something.

[She pauses for a moment, trying to think of a way to put it before giving up and just going for the most direct question]

What...are you, really?

Ah. [ Ryoji ducks his chin into his scarf, looking back at the flame again as he ponders how to answer and what to say. In the end, however, he decides upon honesty, looking back up at her seriously. ]

I am the embodiment of Shadows - part of the repressed human consciousness. I am the Appriser and Avatar of Nyx, the maternal being who bestows Death upon the world.

[Rei listens, unblinking. This...this feels consistent with what she's felt already. Death, darkness, but not evil]

That, well, Ryoji-san. Do you like what you are? This...avatar?

[ He doesn't say anything right away, honestly a little surprised by the question. No one's ever asked him that before. ]

I... [ He ducks his chin into his scarf again, looking away. ] ... no. If... not for the actions and abilities of a very dear friend of mine, I would have ended the world.

[Rei shakes her head.]

That...is a shame. Not that you were stopped, but that you are afraid of who you are. Perhaps that is what the vision meant. Self acceptance.

Self -- acceptance...?

[Ryoji looks up at her again almost warily.]
